Ohio has made an industry out of providing a great experience for motorcycle riders. Its terrain helps, offering nearly every type of road, sublime landscapes, and plenty of opportunities for outdoor fun. No matter where you end up exploring in Ohio, every ride should start with motorcycle insurance.
To operate a motorcycle on public roads in Ohio, you must have a valid operator's license. The Ohio Department of Public Safety states that a motorcyclist must have one of the following:
A motorcycle license
A motorcycle endorsement added to their driver’s license to cover motorized bikes
In addition to a motorcycle license or endorsement, here’s what’s required for you and your bike to be considered street legal when riding:
Eye protection: You must wear eye protection at all times, unless your motorcycle is equipped with a windscreen
Proper handlebars: Your handlebars can’t be taller than shoulder-height
A mirror: You need at least one mirror on your motorcycle
Turn signals: This is required for any bike manufactured after 1967
Headlight: Make sure your headlight is functioning at all times
Muffler: You need to have a muffler on your bike—cutouts or by-passes aren’t allowed
According to Ohio motorcycle law, you must wear a helmet if you’re under the age of 18 or if you’ve had your motorcycle license or motorcycle endorsement for less than one year. If you’re required to wear a helmet, so are your passengers.
Make sure your motorcycle is in ride-ready shape.
The insurance coverage minimums for Ohio are:
$25,000 for bodily injury liability or death to one person
$50,000 for bodily injury liability or death to two or more people
$25,000 for property damage liability in an accident
While these minimums are relatively average compared to other states across the U.S., some motorcycle operators choose to carry higher limits on their motorcycle insurance coverage to provide adequate protection for themselves.

In addition to the liability coverage limits required in Ohio, we provide various forms of additional motorcycle insurance coverage to help protect you and your bike:
Uninsured motorist coverage can help protect you financially if you’re involved in an accident with an uninsured at-fault motorist.
Underinsured coverage can help protect you in the event you have an incident with an at-fault driver whose insurance isn’t enough cover the costs.
Should you be involved in an accident, collision coverage can help pay for damages to your bike, minus your deductible.
If your bike is damaged due to fire, wind, water, theft, or vandalism, comprehensive policy coverage can help pay for covered repairs.
Special equipment motorcycle insurance coverage can help pay for repairs or replacement of permanent equipment that isn’t factory-standard on your bike.

The Windy 9 is nine different motorcycle routes, all roughly 50–100 miles long. These well-maintained roads in southeastern Ohio provide plenty of twists and turns and a variety of landscapes, including forests, hills, small towns, and waterways.
The Windy 9 offers something for everyone, from state parks to historical sites and good eats. In all, there’s more than 1,000 miles to explore.
Plenty of rides are known for their twists and turns, but what makes the Triple Nickel (OH 555) noteworthy is how unexpected and sharp many of its corners are. You'll be snaking your way mostly through farmland and rural areas on this route.
Hocking Hills, also a part of the Windy 9, is a topographically diverse region full of cliffs, gorges, rock shelters, and waterfalls. Although the Hocking Hills area has enough features to fill several days’ worth of adventure, this 93-mile sampler is enough to whet your appetite for more.
